Aim of the Ministerial Conference

The aim of African ministerial conferences is to provide a forum for ministers responsible for co-operative development in Africa together with co-operative leaders from the region to review progress in co-operative performance and chart way forward for the future. These meetings are held every three years in different countries. The last such conference was held in Nairobi, Kenya in 2009 (see documents below).

ICA Africa Ministerial Conference Technical Committee Meeting

The Ministerial Conference Technical Committee (MCTC) will being a preparatory process for a series of meeting with Ministers in charge of co-operatives, namely ICA Africa Meeting of Ministers in Charge of Co-operatives 2011 (Namibia) and the 2012 ICA Africa Ministerial Conference (Rwanda).

The MCTC has received country progress reports on co-operative development since the 8th ICA Africa Ministerial Conference held in Maseru in 2005. The reports covered all core agenda items as agreed at that time in Maseru. In addition, the MCTC identified pertinent new issues that required addressing by the Ministers in the Ministerial Conference in Nairobi, Kenya 22-24 October 2009.

This meeting will review issues related to Co-operative Development Policy and Legislation, Youth in Co-operatives as well as Information Communication Technology (ICT).

The MCTC is expected to adopt an action plan.
