Dr. Claus Jürgen Hachmann, GdW

Together with the Federal Ministry for Infrastructure, Building and Urban Development and

two Research Institutes a handbook for German housing cooperatives has been published, which could also be of interest for other regions in the world.

Life long living in a housing cooperative means a good provision of services for elderly. In the framework of pilot projects the target of the research work was to find ways how to improve the actual situation. The booklet is structured as follows:

1.       Age Provision for cooperative members

2.       Additional shares

3.       Savings Institutions of Housing Cooperatives

4.       Alternative bonds

5.       Overview Saving Possibilities

6.       Reduction of housing costs through the use of savings

7.       Use of additional shares

8.       Permanent Using right as provision for seniors

9.       Rent payment in advance

The booklet is published in German (“Damit das Wohnen bezahlbar bleibt - Ein Handbuch für Wohnungsgenossenschaften“) and can be ordered together with a CD from Hammonia-Verlag Hamburg.
