In October 2010 at the London Symposium “Cooperative Responses to the Climate
Challenge”, ICA Housing made a commitment to ask all its members to sign-up
to only use timber and other forest products in their housing construction,
refurbishment and repair projects from sources that certify sustainable forest
management through internationally recognised sustainable forestry management
schemes such as the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and the Programme for the
Endorsement of Forest Certification. To
further this commitment ICA Housing is pleased to host this seminar during the
Cancun General Assembly entitled : “Environmental Sustainability and Climate
Change: Sustainable Sources of Timber and Forest Products.

This will be followed by visits to local housing co-operatives on the 28th and a Symposium on 29th June. Community Land Trusts (CLTs) offer a way of providing homes and locally-owned business and community premises that are not at the mercy of the markets. They provide long term affordability and are assets for their communities, not for speculators. This year's national CLT conference, organised for the third successive year by New Start magazine and Community Finance Solutions, will hear from leading policymakers and from individuals and organisations at the cutting edge of practice. It will explore how CLTs can be a sustainable solution in a wide range of settings - encompassing housing, economic development and community empowerment.
