ICA Housing is the apex body of the worldwide co‑operative housing movement and a properly constituted sectoral organisation of the International Co‑operative Alliance. Its members have come together to advance their common interest in developing sustainable human communities founded on co‑operative principles and values.
Vision Through our efforts, co-operative and mutual self-help housing will win recognition and respect throughout the world for its unlimited potential and practical achievement in providing secure, affordable shelter controlled by those who call it home.
Mission ICA Housing unites, represents and serves the international movement for co‑operative and mutual self-help housing.
Mandate ICA Housing will unite co‑operative and mutual self-help housing organisations around the globe by:
- seeking members throughout the developed and developing world;
- facilitating regular communication and joint action among our members;
- assisting national movements in their efforts to form regional bodies.
We will represent the co‑operative and mutual self-help housing movement by:
- supporting our members' local efforts to secure the legal, financial and administrative arrangements the movement needs to flourish;
- working regionally and internationally to bring about conditions favourable to the movement's growth;
- disseminating information on the movement and its success in creating sustainable human settlements in all parts of the world;
- joining with other branches of the co‑operative family to win recognition for the important role co‑operatives play in combatting global poverty.
We will serve our members by:
- providing a forum where they can pool their information, knowledge and expertise;
- sharing information actively learned in the field for wider dissemination to members;
- furthering exchanges and movement-to-movement assistance;
- sponsoring education and training programmes in movement building and housing finance, development and management;
- encouraging partnership initiatives among our members and the sharing of best practices from our members' development programmes.
