About CCW

CCW addresses issues of interest to consumer co-operatives. It activities centre on:
  • improving the business efficiency of consumer co-operatives in view of the growing competition of multinationals
  • maintaining the confidence of consumers
  • assisting weaker co-operative movements in all regions
  • making their voice heard in the areas of food safety, environment, fair trade and North-South relationship.

CCW Sub-Committees and Working Groups

In addition to its annual General Assembly and seminars, CCW also has two sub-committees - one on Business Effectiveness, and the other on Co-operative Identity and Values.

It has also set up working groups to address specific issues including environment and green issues, electronic shopping and food quality (laboratories group). The working groups also meet annually with members of these group hosting the meetings.

Advocacy

CCW also regularly represents the ICA at meetings where consumer interests are addressed such as the FAO/WHO Codex Alimentarius Commission which discusses food safety issues and standards.

Structure

The CCW holds an annual General Assembly which normally held in conjuntion with the ICA General or Regional Assembly. This is the members' meeting where statutory business is discussed. In between meetings, its Executive Committee directs the activities of CCW.

CCW also has a regional committee for Asia-Pacific, the ICA Committee on Consumer Co-operation for Asia and the Pacific.
