The International Fund For Agricutural Development (IFAD),  the Swedish Co-operative Centre–Vi Regional Office for Eastern Africa,  and the International Co-operative Alliance Regional Office for Africa, in conjunction with the Government of Uganda and other local partners have organised a joint sub-regional Rural Finance Thematic Workshop in Uganda.

Workshop Theme is ‘Integrated Financial Services to reach the rural Poor’

Integrating financial and non-financial services with complementary services can achieve positive impacts on the lives and livelihoods of poor men and women and their families. Integrated services can help poor families face these challenges better by providing much-needed access to savings, loans and other financial products, while also building practical and relevant skills and knowledge. Together, financial and non-financial services have a synergistic effect, helping the poor to protect against and cope with financial shocks, seize economic opportunities, meet life-cycle needs and build assets that translate to a significant contribution towards poverty reduction.
The workshop will draw from the diverse experiences in the region and hopes to promote cross-country sharing of experiences and improvement of delevery of microfinance service deleivery in rural areas.

Sub-themes to be handled at the Workshop will include ; Technology and Outreach,  Customer Satisfaction, Risk Management and Social Impacts of Rural Microfinance  Services.

Country experiences and participation is expected from Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Rwansa, South Africa, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Madagascar and Zimbabwe
