About the ICA HRD Committee

Aims

The aim of the Committee is to promote and support the initiation and furtherance of HRD programmes within co-operatives and co-operative organisations at global, regional, national and local levels, so as to enhance their social and economic effectiveness.

Structure

The members of the HRD Committee are persons responsible for and actively involved in co-operative HRD activities. The Committee may also decide to invite non-ICA frameworks actively involved in co-operative HRD to become institutional members. In general, observers both from ICA members and non-member organizations may be invited to participate in the HRD Committee meetings and/or activities. International organisations engaged on an on-going basis in co-operative HRD related activities such as International Labour Office (ILO), Food and Agricultural Organisation, Committee for the Promotion and Advancement of Co-operatives COPAC, etc., shall be asked to send observers to relevant HRD Committee meetings activities.

The Committee elects a Chairperson and Executive Committee to direct its work. It holds a Plenary meeting of members annually as well as topical seminars.

The Committee works both at the global and regional levels. The Asia-Pacific region of the ICA has established it own HRD Committee to look more closely at HRD issues at the regional level. This Committee works closely with the global committee.
