Please note: TWO important HRD activities will take place in Singapore.
1. The ICA HRD Symposium
On Tuesday, October 16 at 09:30 AM in the Indiana Room, Raffles City Convention Center a group of outstanding cooperative leaders and HRD experts will respond to the challenging question: "Towards the Future: How Can HRD Best Contribute to Cooperatives Today?" They include:

This discussion of the "how" and the "what" of HRD in today's cooperatives; of where we are with HRD and where we ought to be - from the viewpoint both of the practitioners who "supply" HRD and of the cooperative leaders who provide the "demand " for it – will be of interest and importance for cooperatives everywhere. 2. The Meeting of the ICA HRD Committee
On Wednesday, October 17 at 10:30 AM in the Minto Room, Raffles City Convention Center reports on progress made and future plans for the internet Cooperative Learning Center (CLC) will be made by Ian MacPherson of BCICS and Bhagwati Prasad of NCUI, followed by an open discussion. All of us know how much CLC can contribute to cooperative development. Be with us to learn how we are progressing along the difficult road which leads from an excellent idea to its realization in reality.
Elections of the chairperson and the members of the executive committee of ICA-HRD will also take place.
Please be sure to be with us for both these important events. We look forward to sharing ideas with you, to hearing your voice and to your active participation.

Global HRD network For Co-operatives
The Global HRD Network for Co-operatives has been established by the National Co-operative Union of India and the Vaikunth Mehta National Institute of Co-operative Management in collaboration with ICA HRD Committee. The portal intends to provide, inter alia, access to training programmes, training materials and global news and events. Global HRD Network For Co-operatives

Co-operative Learning Centre (CLC)
The ICA HRD Committee has been working on making available a web portal for co-operative training and education materials. The portal is currently under constuction but will include information, publications, training materials and on-line courses for co-operative managers, leaders and HRD specialists. Materials are currently being identified in English, French, Spanish, German, Japanese, Arabic, and Russian.

Co-operative Learning Centre (CLC) Portal Website

The British Columbia Institute of Co-operative Studies (BCICS) at the University of Victoria in Canada is the focal point for the development of the portal. It has incorporated the work of the Co-operative College UK as well as that being done by the National Co-operative Union of India (NCUI) on the development of a global network of co-operative training and education centres. In addition, a number of co-operative institutions throughout the world have agreed to work on the creation and maintenance of versions of the CLC Portal in a variety of languages including French, Russian, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Hindi and Japanese, with others to follow. Additional areas for collaboration will be developed in the future.
The CLC has been able to be developed with the support of the ICA HRD members, the BCICS, co-operative institutes as well as the Co-operative Branch of the International Labour Office (ILO).
- CLC activities in conjuntion with ICA General Assembly, Cartagena (Colombia)
A two-day seminar on the CLC is planned during the meeting of the ICA General Assembly in Cartagena (Colombia) on 18-19 September 2005. Day one will evaluate what has been achieved and seek to set out plans, frameworks and schedules for future development, while day two will formulate conclusions and to set out a general plan for the next steps in the development of the CLC.
In addition, a special interest session on "The Co-operative Learning Centre: A Portal to Co-operative Education and Training" open to all those attending the ICA General Assembly will be heldon 21 September 2005. At this session the BCICS team, together with others from the ICA HRD Committee and the ILO's Co-operative Branch will present an introduction to the CLC followed by a discussion of its role in today's co-operative activity and its potential contribution to co-operative development. HRD Seminars
The HRD Committee also organises seminars for its members and interested co-operators on current HRD issues in co-operatives. The Committee has held a number of jointly organised meetings with other thematic committee and sectoral organisations of the ICA. These have addressed HRD and gender issues, HRD and research for building the co-operative advantage, distance learning and electronic networking, etc.
In addition, the Committee organises it annual plenary generally in conjunction with an ICA statutory meeting - General Assembly or Regional Assembly.
