DAC

The fight against poverty has mobilized the whole world and led to the creation of campaigns and coalitions whose common objective is to contribute to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goal on poverty. This page provides links to some of these initiatives.

GCAP / Whiteband

The Global Call to Action Against Poverty (GCAP) is a massive global coalition from more than 100 countries and is made up of a diverse range of community groups, coalitions trade unions, organisations, individuals, faith groups and campaigners, who are all committed to the fight against poverty. These groups have formed country-based coalitions, who use the symbol of the whiteband to promote who GCAP's demands and enable concerned citizens to put pressure on world leaders and decision makers.

What is the White Band?

 
GCAP supporters are united by their use of the white band. The white band is the symbol that people, towns and cities all over the world can adopt to show their support and keep the anti-poverty message highly visible. Find out more about the white band and how it is used.

Millennium

The Millennium Campaign informs, inspires and encourages people's involvement and action for the realization of the Millennium Development Goals. An initiative of the United Nations, the Campaign supports citizens' efforts to hold their government to account for the Millennium promise.

 
The Campaign was launched in October 2002, two years after 189 government leaders from the highest political level of almost every country in the world agreed at the September 2000 Millennium Summit to a set of eight time-bound targets that, when achieved, will end extreme poverty across the planet.

DAC

The Development Assistance Committee (DAC http://www.oecd.org/dac is the principal body throug which the OECD deals with issues related to co-operation with developing countries. To help donors sharpen their focus on poverty reduction efforts, the DAC POVNET has produced guidance on how they can promote pro-poor growth.
