Cooperating out of child labour - Harnessing the untapped potential of cooperatives and the cooperative movement to eliminate child labour
A joint publication of the ICA and the International Labour Organisation Co-operative Programme (ILO COOP) and the International Programme on the Elimination of Child Labour (IPEC), this report has been produced as a call to action to the world co-operative movement to join hands in fighting child labour. It demonstrates that the co-operative movement has an important role to play in eliminating child labour worldwide and provides examples of programmes and policies in place in agricultural, consumer and other co-operatives.
The report aims to assist co-operative leaders, employees and members to understand the child labour issue and ensure that co-operative business operations and supply chains are child labour free. To obtain copies, please see:

Global 300 list 2008
This is the third consecutive
year that the ICA publishes the Global300 list to highlight
the important role co-operative enterprises play in national
and international economies. The 2008 list shows that the 300
top co-operatives are responsible for an aggregate turnover
of 1.1 trillion USD which makes it the size of the 10th economy
of the world nearly the size of the Spanish economy. The list
also shows that co-operatives are growing in terms of turnover
14% growth over the turnover of top 300 co-operatives reported
in 2007, and the 2007 list reported a growth rate of 10% in
comparison to the first Global 300 List of 2006. See more information
on www.global300.coop or

Report of the Colloquium on the Contribution of the Co-operative Sectors on Housing Development
The Colloquium was convened to address the UN Habitat Agenda which call
for collaboration of the United Nations system and the co-operative movement
to improve shelter delivery and the management, maintenance and revitalisation
of housing stocks. It focused on the diverse housing co-operative experiences
with particular emphasis on the realities in Central and Eastern Europe
where privatisation of the housing stock has in some instances led to housing
co-operatives being transformed into condominiums. The meeting was co-organised
by the United Nations HABITAT, United Nations Economic Commission for Europe
(UNECE), International Co-operative Alliance (ICA), Housing Development
Administration of Turkey (HDA) and the Central Housing Co-operative Association
in Turkey. The report is also available electronically: www.unhabitat.org/programmes/housingpolicy/documents/HS-642.pdf
