ESDC is a Palestinian development NGO with vast experiences in development and humanitarian cooperation. Within development cooperation, ESDC is a well-recognized at the national level for their work in developing and building the capacities of cooperatives and the cooperative sector. Not only does ESDC build the institutional capacities of cooperatives, CBOs and working groups, but also develops their capacities in natural resources management, agriculture and food security, and social economy. Institutional capacity of the target groups is built and sustained through: updating strategic and business plans to coincide with their business, adapting proper production systems and developing their marketing capacities.
ESDC prides itself in being a learning organization and looks forward to networking with ICA members for information sharing, knowledge exchange and peer learning. As an NGO that focuses on developing and building the capacities of the cooperative sector in Palestine we look forward to learning and applying other successful methods for development. Also, ESDC look to learn of innovative advocacy techniques that will build the cooperative movement at the policy level and provide for an enabling environment for a social economy. In that sense, ESDC looks to network with cooperatives that are successful within an enabling environment so as to use that as a tool to instill a better understanding of a social economy within our own developing society.
As part of developing capacities of the cooperatives and formal working groups in Palestine, ESDC works with the cooperatives to develop their business component. A large percentage of the targeted cooperatives are in the agriculture sector and so their businesses focus on agriculture products and processing. ESDC supports the cooperatives in producing high quality standardized goods and then links them with marketing agencies to market their goods in the local and international markets, and therefore, ESDC looks to create links with international cooperatives and markets to increase their trade. Through networking, ESDC readily links the capable cooperatives with local and international organizations to support their cooperative and makes them a model cooperative for others to learn from. Through this ripple effect, the networking supports the cooperative movement in Palestine.
ESDC welcomes international delegations and takes pride in the achievements achieved within the cooperative sector. Among that is the success of women led cooperatives within the Palestinian context. The successful cooperatives that ESDC has contributed to their development are all sustained and within good practices in line with the values.
