Format: Online

Zoom registration links:

Throughout October, the ICA will organise the four-session online training series: “EU Delegations and EU Compliance for the Cooperative World”.

The second session, “Global Gateway Readiness for Cooperative Organisations”, taking place on 13 October 2026, will introduce participants to the Global Gateway strategy, its financing architecture and how it is being rolled out in practice.

Building on the first session, the training will help participants understand how Global Gateway differs from traditional EU grant funding, how its combination of grants, loans and guarantees works, and how cooperative organisations can realistically position themselves within this architecture.

What will participants learn?

  • Explain what Global Gateway is, including its main strategic pillars and objectives.
  • Distinguish Global Gateway’s blended-finance approach, combining grants, loans and guarantees, from traditional EU grant funding.
  • Understand the role of key financial institutions, including the European Investment Bank (EIB), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and national development finance institutions, as well as the European Fund for Sustainable Development Plus (EFSD+) guarantee.
  • Explore how Global Gateway is being rolled out through Team Europe Initiatives (TEIs) and concrete country and regional examples.
  • Understand how cooperative organisations can realistically position themselves within Global Gateway initiatives and projects.

Content Outline

  • What is Global Gateway?
  • The Global Gateway financing architecture
  • Global Gateway rollout and examples
  • Practical implications for cooperatives

Who should attend?

The training is aimed at ICA member organisations, national cooperative apex bodies, federations and individual cooperatives, both within and outside the European Union, interested in understanding Global Gateway and exploring opportunities linked to EU-backed initiatives and investments.

This activity is organized under the ICA-EU Partnership (2024-2028), also known as #coops4dev🌍, a five-year international cooperative development programme that aims to strengthen the ICA network and position cooperatives as key development actors within the European Union Development Agenda.
