The latest Cooperative Insider newsletter is now available! This issue focuses on the 2021 International Day of Cooperatives, looking at how cooperative enterprises are helping to rebuild economies across the world and bringing communities together.
In his introductory message, ICA President Ariel Guarco highlights how cooperatives can rebuild the post-COVID-19 world, prioritising people, their communities and the environment they live in, and ensuring that no one is left behind.
The issue also includes successful stories of cooperation highlighted during the International Day of Cooperatives on 3 July and that can be found on the 2021 #CoopsDay map, such as insurer Sancor Seguros in Argentina and telecoms provider Telecoop in France.
The Cooperative Insider also looks at how the global cooperative movement came together to raise funds for affected cooperatives in India and Nepal via the ICA’s ‘Cooperatives Combat COVID-19’ fund. Similarly, in the UK, retail cooperatives provided over £100,000 to SEWA Co-operative Federation in India as it faced the pandemic.
#CoopsDay celebrations around the world included a #CoopsDay online event on 2 July organised by the ICA and COPAC – read the report from the event here. A second webinar will take place on 12 July – register here.
The news section features reports from three ICETT webinars held in June as well as an interview with the Chair, Vice-Chair and Facilitator of the ICA G20 Working Group, who explain why it’s important to represent the movement in the G20 discussions. As the ICA invites government entities to become members, Curaçao's Ministry of Economic Development explains the benefits of joining.
Also in the news are a report from a webinar on Digitisation Strategies Among Credit Unions and Cooperative Banks and an outline of OCDC’s latest report on the difference that primary cooperative societies are making in the lives of their members.
