IHCO launches survey on the impact of co-operatives on citizens’ health

25 Aug 2016

The International Health Co-operative Organisation (IHCO) has partnered with the European Research Institute on Cooperative and Social Enterprises (EURICSE) to conduct a study on the impact of co-operatives on the health of citizens.

The research project will also look at the contribution of health co-operatives to the welfare state of the countries in which they operate. The objectives of the project, as well as the methodology and common strategies for data collection were set out in July after a meeting between IHCO president José Carlos Guisado and the Euricse research team comprising Michela Giovanni, Carlo Borzaga and Gianluca Salvatori.

With this project, IHCO aims to identify the main co-operative models existing within the health sector and to understand how they relate to national welfare systems. The results of the study will also be used to formulate recommendations for the design of efficient and inclusive social policies.

The project will be supervised by a scientific committee formed by José Carlos Guisado and Adriano Leite Soares (IHCO), Carlo Borzaga and Gianluca Salvatori (Euricse), Bruno Roelants (CICOPA), Angelo Stefanini (Centre for International and Intercultural Health, University of Bologna) and Michael Roy (Yunus Center for Social Business and Health, Glasgow Caledonian University).
