Women in Leadership for a Just Recovery

Women leadership for a just recovery

On 18 March 2021, the ICA Gender Equality Committee (GEC) with the support of ICA-EU Partnership (#coops4dev) hosted a webinar about the role of cooperatives in helping women leaders to tackle gender inequalities. The event was titled “Women in Leadership for a Just Recovery”.

The discussion was structured into two parts: in the first part, the representatives of the GEC presented some regional updates, and in the second part, a discussion about some policy and development perspectives took place with respresentatives Simel Esim, Head of the Cooperatives Unit at the International Labour Organisation (ILO), Camilla Lundberg Ney, Advocacy Coordinator at WeEffect, Dr. Judith Hermanson, Director at International Cooperative Research Group, and Wenyan Yang, Chief of Global Dialogue for Development Branch in the Division for Inclusive Social Development of UN DESA.

During the sessions, the panelists emphasized the need for urgent action as the COVID-19 crisis continues to exacerbate existing gender inequalities and illustrated how cooperatives that provide leadership opportunities for women could orchestrate a just recovery.
